For the more active one's there is a mini-gym, squash court and tennis court that can be hired at your own costs. For the more adventurous there is bungee jumping just a 20 minute drive away. The rare and endangered Oyster Catcher bird loves the Boggomsbaai area, and walking the "Oyster Catcher Trail" is a wonderful way of tracking and learning more about them and sea life. The beach offers a good bathing area plus a stretch of rocky beach with lovely pools and a tide pool for swimming. An easy hiking trail has been laid out around the lagoon. It is safe to go for long walks. The town offers a prolific bird population, including a breeding area for the endangered black African oystereater. Owls are common and kiewiets (plovers) and guineafowls are common visitors in the garden. (Bird book on bookshelf). Rabbits graze about in the early morning and tortoises are common - watch out for them when driving!  Badgers are also common, although not easily spotted. Binoculars will be handy. Gouritzmond is 45 km away from Mossel Bay, featuring various attractions such as historical sites, well-equipped shops and restaurants and cage diving with sharks,. The Diaz Museum, the prehistoric cave at Punt and the Post Office Tree are on your must-visit list. Mossel Bay is also the beginning of the famous Garden Route. George is 100 km from Gouritzmond.  To the other side is Stilbaai, 65 km away, offering lovely beaches and pre-historic caves.  Albertinia is 35 km away on the N2-route and boasts a hotel well-known for its superb traditional meals. Bungy-jumping and bridge swinging offered at the Gouritz River Bridge 30 km away, or visit the game reserve featuring the Big Five just outside Albertinia. Gourikwa Reserve

The estate was proclaimed a private nature reserve in 1995. It is the largest private nature reserve along the South African coastline. It extends over 2455 hectares (6066 acres) and stretches 5 km along the Indian Ocean. The reserve is fully fenced along its 15 km perimeter and is only accessible via two gated entrances. Well preserved ancient fish traps and shell middens are situated along the reserve's coastline and pay testament to our great heritage. The fish traps date back to the Later Stone Age people (Khoikhoi) who roamed the coastline about 2000 years ago. A walk up Buffelskop (212 m - the highest point on the reserve) offers a magnificent view of the entire coastline, the light house and a vast undulating inland landscape. PROPERTY FEATURES The Ystervark Punt Lighthouse, part of the South African National Ports Authority's network, is an iconic feature on the Western part of the estate. This automatic lighthouse was first commissioned on 4th August 1964 and rebuilt in 2006. It stands 21 metres tall with a rotating light (605.000 candle powers) with a range of 24 sea miles. Various species of game have been reintroduced to the reserve in the late 90's. Species include a large herd of Eland (approximately 30) and 14 endangered Cape Mountain Zebra.  Species that occur in the area naturally are Bushbuck, Honey badger, Caracal and the African Wildcat. Studies are underway to determine which species may occur on the reserve due to the Fynbos biome. The reserve has its own slipway which allows launching small and medium-sized boats. Large open areas (tarred and grass) at the main centre provide for comfortable helicopter landing. Ample fresh water resources are available from boreholes and fountains. SITUATED Gourikwa private nature reserve is situated along one of the world most breathtaking coastlines - the Garden Route, known as South Africa's safe haven. Vista Bonita NR 52 is in a block of flat on the 10th floor with a spectacular view over Mossel Bay and the Swimming Beach from the stoep. It is a 2 bedroom flat-main bedroom has a double bed, built in cupboards and an on suite bathroom with a shower, the second bedroom has 2 single beds built in cupboards there is a second bathroom with a bath in between the 2 rooms. With an open plan kitchen with built in stove with plates and an oven, and fridge and freezer in one and microwave. Open plan with the kitchen is the living area with a TV with DSTV decoder but you need to bring your own card, there is a double bed sleeper couch with linen in the bedroom cupboards. Linen is available for all the beds and the sleeper couch, you do need to bring your own bath and beach towels. A Laundromat working with coins is available on the ground floor of the building. There is an elevator in the apartment block as well as full access control and security around the property. It is halfway between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, and 2 kms from both Mossel Bay and Hartenbos. This apartment is on the second floor and consists of two bedrooms, with one double bed and second bedroom with one double bed and one single bed for 5 people. The bathroom offers a bath with a shower overhead. There's a fully equipped kitchen with washing machine, tumble dryer, microwave oven, stove with oven and fridge. Step out of the building, cross the road and walk through the historical granary museum and you are a hundred metres away from our very own Blue Flag Santos beach.
